SUVs -- WTF?

SUVs -- WTF?

According to news reports on the radio this afternoon, gas prices, after a short bump downward around the 4th of July holiday, are once again headed north. Yes, North, as in Ollie.

This newsflash came as I drove along the Harlem River Drive, amidst a slew of SUVs. SUVs! All over the highway, each with one and only one person in them. Were they toting sporting materials? Were they carrying cargo?

THERE MAY BE HOPE!

THERE MAY BE HOPE!

Using the entertaining Googlefights tool, I entered the combatants:

George W. Bush vs. The Truth

Check out the results here.

It also shows that Dick Cheney may not be too long for this planet. Hmm, who is the Speaker of The House?

ELECTRIFYING THE CONVENTIONS

ELECTRIFYING THE CONVENTIONS

Fellow blogger Susan Mernit sent a pointer to an item she'd posted recently, and also an update that appears on her blog right now.

The idea is to open up the election and convention converage, use the electronic connected media to spread the word.

THE HATE MAIL COMETH

THE HATE MAIL COMETH

In today's e-mail, along with the usual expected daily items, general mail, and all that Spam, was a forward from a friend, with a note that this was interesting reading.

He usually forwards either ribald prose or racy graphics, almost always humorous. Every now and again he sends something either a little more serious, or something political that caught his eye. His politics and mine are pretty far apart, but as friends we agree to disagree.

CHANGES & TIME

CHANGES & TIME

No surprise, really. It happens every year. June comes, then July, and the realization sets in that half the year has gone by.

This year it hit me, like being brushed by a feather. June ended, no big note of the halfway point. Elsewhere I did read in another blog that the writer was slightly more than stunned that it was the 3rd Quarter already.

Then it was July, and I made mention to Susan, as I do each year, that this coming New Year's Eve, and the party we attend each year, is closer than the last one we attended.

BLOGGER NAME GAME

BLOGGER NAME GAME

Over on my Baseball blog there's an item about players who are known to all on a first-name-basis. Bernie, Manny, Pedro, Edgar. And then there are the nicknames: Yogi, The Big Hurt, A-Rod, Pudge, Junior, The Big Unit.

This topic had been going through my head, and much credit goes to Susan who noticed how various players, when interviewed in pre-game or post-game shows, consistently referred to a certain few players by first name.

Golby, eh, Dylan, seems correct

Golby, eh, Dylan, seems correct

I am a big fan of Mike Golby's blog. I like what Mike writes about, and how he uses quotes from songs to illustrate points, summarize, or just frame out a discussion.

Like that Carole King lyric: "music is playing inside of my head, over and over and over again." More about that one later.

For many, many years my life was filled with music.

Here and There

Here and There

For the moment I am still simul-blogging on both the http://DeanLand@buzzword.com (formerly weblogs.com) site and on the fauxblog my son set up for me: http://www.land-com.net/deanland/.

This represents a few things. First is my desire to ake the blog available and easily clicked-to, whether one goes to the old deanland.weblogs.com address, now redirected to the buzzword.com URL, or to the fauxblog address.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE'S MOST FAMOUS VICTIM

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE'S MOST FAMOUS VICTIM

The man who managed to cut government spending in as many ways as he found possible: environmental initiatives, the arts, welfare, public assistance, anything that remotely smelled of Democrat or Liberal agenda, and who managed to grow the deficit to sky high numbers, has passed away.

I never liked Reagan when he was alive, and I donít have even a slight semblance of warmer feelings for him in his death.

A RETURN TO SANITY

A RETURN TO SANITY

The Return of Cracker Jack!

Baseball may still have the wretched DH rule, but at Yankee Stadium there has been a slight return to normalcy: Cracker Jack is back! No more CrunchíníMunch.
