Various Points of Note

Here it is, the seventeenth of June. My parents' 57th anniversary. We celebrated this event and Father's Day yesterday with a brunch at one of our favorite haunts in the city. Very nice.

In 13 days it will be first of July, the beginning of the second half of this year. Flies by real quickly, eh?

In two days I go to Chicago for the day. On business. Three meetings set, and so busy that I fly back the same night. The Cubs are in town, the White Sox on the road...so no night game to see, and not enough time in my midweek schedule to take an extra day and catch a Cubs game at Wrigley. Sounds inviting, but no can do. No complaint, of course. Better to be busy than the alternative.

Last week I became a member of the Electric Frontier Foundation. Becoming a member is a euphemism for "gave money to this worthy cause." In the membership form, the site asks why one is joining, their motivations, and such. Here's what I wrote:

To participate in the perceived, shared goal: to maintain liberty and freedom on the net, an international and global entity which must not fall prey to greed, avarice, scams. Further, that it should not be subject to the desires of those who would regulate and dominate for their own betterment, or the betterment of their benefactors or coterie. To maintain, protect and preserve the open forum and communication and distribution facility that is the free and unfettered net.

Again I must send out a big THANK YOU to Doc Searls. A good few people have asked for information or sign-up forms for my low-cost, no bull, pay for what you use, no hidden charge Long Distance service. At this rate, I might just have to make Doc an e-agent!

Knowing Doc as I do, he'd probably want the spoils of being an agent added to the EEF donation!

And a side note to Doc: I vote for keeping the indent.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, The Godfather of All Bloggers and spirit and guiding force for this incredible vehicle of expression and communication, Dave Winer, is in the hospital. Apparently he will be there for at least another week. Whatever it is that has him there, here's a huge dose of hope and friendship, intended to help rid him of it. Get well, Dave!

Which gives a moment to pause, and consider that health is the most important thing one can have. Lose weight, lose money, lose a loved one or a job or a pet...these are all pretty unsettling events. One recovers, life goes on. But lose your health, and nothing else much matters.

And that includes one's Mental Health, too!
