Phone Biz Funnies

WorldCom goes bankrupt, but not until after exposure of oodles of corporate waste, internal hijinx, and greed. As the stock value was plummeting and debt was rising, WorldCom execs are cashing out to the tune of seven figure stock sales.

Qwest, the company that makes Global Crossing and WorldCom seem like altar boys, is under Federal investigation by the Justice Department for criminal wrongdoings. Of course, earlier in July Qwest denied it was even being looked at for wrongdoings.

Then, when the news was official, the denial was reversed.

Off line, off blog, off the record, I've been carrying on some discussions with friends in and out of the Telecommuncations business about the bad news in the category, the veritable cloud looming over the telecom industry.

For a variety of reasons, I've chosen to keep "publicly mum" with regard to my feelings about the companies and the players in the industry -- particularly those who have been blackening the reputation of the field, in general.

This week's issue of eWEEK, in the Spencer Katt parody (and rumors) section, has a great cartoon about the recent goings-on. It has to do with WorldCom creating false executive names in Customer Service, so the frustrated clients could never really get to the right person, never get their question answered...never really receive any Customer Service, at all!

So I am posting the cartoon here. You can see a host of Spencer Katt cartoons on eWEEK's site, right here.
