BE HEARD! YOUR OPINION COUNTS!

BE HEARD! YOUR OPINION COUNTS!

This came in as an e-mail from John Rook this morning:

Greetings Dean,

Any help you can give this is so important.

My Illinois friends Bob McChesney and John Nichols have been most
helpful in efforts to halt the monopolization of the media.
Please take just a few minutes to join me in taking advantage of their
quickie way to make your feelings known to those who count.

The next three days are for all the apples...it's time to pull out
all stops and make sure we win this battle...

Can I count on you to join me in this fight that has taken seven years of my life and destroyed an industry we all were so proud of ?

IT'S VITAL MY FRIEND.

A message from Robert McChesney and John Nichols:

Big media is getting bigger and our democracy is at stake.

As you know, a month ago the FCC dramatically relaxed media ownership regulations, suffocating the cornerstone of American democracy: a free, fair, and open public debate.

Because one million Americans raised their voices against the FCC decision, the Senate Commerce Committee recently sent a bill to the Senate floor for a vote that would roll back many of the rules. Today the challenge is to get that bill to the floor of the Senate and House for a vote.

Take 3 Minutes to Stop Media Monopoly: Phone It In.

Call your Congressional representatives and demand that they support the
rollback. One phone call from a constituent is more effective than scores of email petitions.

Go to www.mediareform.net/stopthefcc and follow the easy steps or read on for more information.

I went to the link, found the numbers for my representatives, and made the calls. I also e-mailed them to be certain that my voice (and opinion) would be counted in their internal tallies. All three offices reported that they were getting a good many calls on the FCC issue.

Shortly thereafter I sent John a reply, saying: Calls made. E-mails sent. Signed up for the network. Then I sent another one asking his permission to quote his e-mail verbatim on the blog, which, as you can see, came back in a prompt return e-mail.

Three key days! Make your voice heard. Use the link above to locate your Senatorsí and Congressional Representativeís numbers. Then weigh in on this issue. Donít let partisan politics and political favors result in monopolistic ownership of the airwaves.

Imagine if the next step would be control of US-based websites.

Take away one freedom, then the next one is even easier to eliminate. Donít let this happen!

Hey, Mrs. Calabash!

I refuse to let a post from a few days ago say goodnight to Mrs. Calabash. Check this one out: it includes discussion of:

Shelton Jackson Lee, who is fighting with TNN on the moniker, ìThe Spike Network.î
The Supreme Court decision regarding the Texas Sodomy Laws
And more about the FCC, and some more mentions of items from John Rookís site. Many interesting links there.

Yes, I am shamelessly politicking for readers to click on this link and read that entry. To those who click, I say a heart-felt THANK YOU!
