Incorrigible Peacenik

Incorrigible Peacenik

33 years ago, on the occasion of my 18th birthday, I registered for the draft. This was done in keeping with the law, and for no other reason.

I was in college at the time, a Freshman away from home and my cultural worldview.

Doc Searls advances an idea to use broadcast (tv & radio) in conjunction with the web (I do like Docís idea that the country domain suffix be IQ, and see my comment on that, below) regarding an attempt to restore, reclaim, and regenerate the recently ransacked Baghdad museums.

March 14th

MARCH 14th

On this day in 1879 Albert Einstein was born. A nice Jewish fellow who was good in Math, yet who was not particularly endearing to those who were his teachers when he was a little one. I can relate. I, too, was born on March 14th, some 73 years later.

Happy Birthday to Einstein. He and I both made our debut appearances on March 14th!

Can you Super Size that WIFI?

Can you Super Size that WIFI?

Something tells me there will be lawsuits as a result of McDonald's offering WIFI access in some of their stores (or should I say, er, restaurants, or outlets for prepackaged fast foodstuffs?).

In the on-line CNN coverage, it says visitors to McDonald's will receive up to one hour of WIFI access.

SHRUBBY vs. JFK

SHRUBBY vs. JFK

Or should that sub-head be Saddam compared to Fidel?

In my professional life (hmm: as opposed to my non-professional life? That sounds very weird, actually.) ñ make that my business lifeó I review numerous forums, message boards, and information sharing sites.

In some cases, ìthread driftî moves the discussion from matters of business to current events. Then it moves to politics, and of course it then boils down to name calling and arguments.

signifies HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my daughter! My wonderful daughter, first born child, she of the ever-improving grade point average (I am so proud of her!) had a birthday last Friday. Yes, she somehow managed to turn 18. 18! My little girl, now 18 years old. Yikes!

WHAT? ME? A REACTIONARY?

WHAT? ME? A REACTIONARY?

Yes, it happened. One of those epiphany sort of moments. The kind of personal eye-opening, view-of-oneself sort of moments that people wax about in the endpaper fin de siecle in the New York Times Sunday Magazine. Except, in this case, I am more concerned and confused than brimming with glorious obnoxious insight and self-awe.

Hereís the scoop: a few weeks back the cover story/lead article in a Sunday Times Magazine was about when The Father of The House is in The Big House, or something to that effect. Fathers in prison.

County Legislature says NO to war!

"Just Say No"

This is the sort of news story that makes me happy to live in this suburban county.

Does The Heart Grow Fonder?

Yes, no blogactivity for quite some time. I missed posting on Chinese New year, Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Lincoln's real birthday, Presidents Day.

Funny thing is, I had lots to say.

And there are a bunch of posts in varying forms of readiness, waiting to be published.

Freedom from Oppression: Kevin & HIllary

FREE AT LAST

It finally happened. Kevin Mitnick is once again a free man. And heís got a job, and seems to be getting some respect, as well.

Down On One Knee. Very Down

Down On One Knee. Very Down

About 10.8 million visits per year are made to physiciansí offices because of a knee problem. It is the most often treated anatomical site by orthopaedic surgeons.

As long as I can recall, Iíve had knee problems. As a kid my ìtrick kneesî would sometimes cause problems as I played baseball.
