STOP READING THIS.  GO VOTE.

Have you voted yet today? Provided you are registered, it is critical
that you participate in the process. Unless you've alreadt cast your
vote, stop reading this and go take care of that.

In
the quaint little suburban village where I am registered there has
never been a line longer than two or three people ahead of me. This
goes for the big elections, small ones, primaries, any and all. This is
a small village, the voting district (the A.D. and the E.D., as it is
characterized in NY State) is part of a relatively small town. We are
one voting district in a county that is not overpopulated.

And
today, I am happy to report, turnout was tremendous. Those lovely
little old ladies, and their counterparts, the lovely little even older
old ladies -- the ones who check your address and ask you to sign in,
lead you to the polling booth, offer you a Fig Newton and then thank
you for voting, informed me that this is the highest turnout they can
recall. Ever. In history. There were about 15 voters in front of
me.  In my little village, that qualifies as a very long line.

The old ladies were quite taken by the turnout.  It must offer
them a sense of qualification and verification for the work they do,
year after year.  They know the process and how it works.
They are helpful and sweet and sort of the Norman Rockwellian
grandmothers to all the voters.

Some of those lovely little old ladies appear to have been working the
election process since before George Washington. He fought near here,
and this little village was founded way before Independence was
declared.  We know his troops spent a night near here, before
going a little south of here to do battle with the Brits.

One
often sees signs saying "George Washington slept here." For all one
knows, some of these lovely election biddies may even have slept with him around here!

I voted for Kerry. This was a vote for change.
And a vote against Dubya. I have much work to do this afternoon, and
will probably stay at the desk until into the evemning hours. Then I
will turn on MSNBC, and watch the results.

Hopefully this will be decided sooner, not later, like last time.

And if you haven't voted yet, STOP READING THIS. Go to your polling place and Vote For Change!!
