Exit the Dragon, Enter the Snake

Exit the Dragon, Enter the Snake

Kung How Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!

2000 was The Year of The Dragon. I was born in a Year of The Dragon! Hooray for Dragons!!The Year of The Dragon has come to an end. Now begins the Year of The Snake. The Year of The Snake. The Snake builds sufficient resources to endure weather, tough times, and sheds the skin to rejuvenate, continually surviving, renewing. A good omen, yes?

From Chinatown On Line, a UK site, we get this interesting view of the coming year:

Overview for the Year of the Snake
Snake Sleeping in Winter

2001 is the year of the "Snake Sleeping in Winter". The image is
one of a snake which builds up sufficient resources to last out
the winter in comfort. On face value this may seem to imply that
a successful year is ahead. This is not necessarily the case,
but is dependent upon sufficient work being done to ensure that
success.

This is a year for preparation. In this particular snake year
there is the association with deep winter, with potential
hardship and difficulties to overcome. This is a year,
therefore, in which your eyes should be fixed on your goals, but
not so firmly fixed as to be blind to the short-term
difficulties that lie in the path of your goals.

This is a year in which it is important be faithful to friends
and family. Your network of support may be a significant asset
in difficult times. Be prepared to be more than a fair weather
friend and to walk the extra mile when someone is in need. That
said, remember that there is a danger of excessive behaviour
this year, so keep a balance, and just check to make sure you're
not being taken for a ride.

Welcome to Chinese calendar year 4699.
Red and gold are the colors of the Chinese New Year. "May you enjoy success and prosperity" is the translation of Kung How Fat Choi. Gold for prosperity; red for success!

Gold and Yellow are the symbolic colors used in the traditional Chinese New Year greeting, Gung How Fat Choy! Enjoy prosperity and success!
