BUSY ME

BUSY ME

Yes, it has been over a week since a new post appeared on DeanLand. Busy, busy, busy. And no posts just for the sake of posting. Or, as a friend mentioned two nights ago, no posts about what I had for lunch. The only reason the topic of what I ate for lunch so rarely makes it to this space is that it just doesn't usually strike me as though details of my lunch is something anyone would want to read.

If I'd been to an intersting restaurant, or had some particularly interesting meal, maybe that would make a worthy entry. A few Thanksgivings ago, when the turkey was an out and out masterpiece, I wrote all about that, even posted pictures. But suffice it to say that lunch for the past ten days has been pedestrian fare, nothing to make note of.

Back to being busy. Happily, all this busy-ness (it didn't look correct when typed as business, although being busy with business is part of the very reason iam so busy) has been with things that are exciting, in a a number of very positive directions. It continues, I am glad to report, so posting may be a little haphazard for the next week or so.

The week ahead will be full of meetings, opportunity, and perhaps some growth, as well.

Looks like there will be yet another blog coming from these parts, very soon. Suggestions about it came from one quarter, an offer of assistance in the design came from another quarter. Now I must decide which blogging tool to use. My heart says go open source, my mind says go with one that will not drive me insane or be too difficult to use.

If the design can match what I can draw on a piece of paper, and entry is not too difficult, then it should be coming within the month. And that blog (still working on the name, but we've narrowed it down to one of three spossibilities) will be steadily updated.

Does anyone know of a blogging tool that will do the following: Post articles (items, entries, whatever) on a given day as an update, from a library of pre-written items. Here's the situation: the blog will cover a topic area, and the idea is to present fresh writing on the topic on a regular basis.

Already existing are a good many of the articles, and until the site goes live, there will be continued writing, editing, and adding of items to be posted. I would like to be able to designate the order of posting, and have the updated posting be done on an automated basis. This way I could update with additional entries on an ad-hoc basis, while also having a relatively steady (and automated) flow of posts, essay, papers, appearing on the site.

If you know how to accomplish this, please send me an e-mail. I will be eternally grateful.

THE BEARD REMAINS (sort of)

Okay, so I didn't shave it off. When the woman who is my favorite cashier at the local supermarket told me I looked like an Imam from that mosque in Albany where the alleged terrorists came from, I was ready to go totally clean shaven. Even the mustache.

Last weekend (when I had indicated the beard was going) I began to do it. Scissors in hand, facing the mirror, I combed it outward, and began to cut. Snip, snip, snip. Wow, there was a lot of beard there.

Then it began to look, uh, trimmed. Kept. Not long and unkempt.

Whoa, I thought, this is a whole different look. Maybe I'll keep this for a few days and see how I like it, yeah, that's the ticket. And after cutting SO MUCH OFF and still having a trimmed beard, it seemed a safe move.

Dinner at a friend's house Monday night drew compliments. Wow, I thought, that was fast. And dinner was great, but, as per above, not quite great enough to warrant going into detail. But anyway, the beard got high marks.

There is one drawback, although it is not such a terrible thing. A trimmed beard requires maintenance. As in every other say, or else the hairs start sticking out all over the place in any manner of directions. So now it requires every-other-day trimming.

Snip, snip, snip.

Sooner or later that will get tiresome. Then I will either go back to the Wild Man From Borneo look, or shave it off altogether. There is an outside chance that photos will appear at some point. Maybe this should be the subject of a Deanland reader poll. You decide!

And now, back to being busy, productive, and doing some good work!
