It was over 20 years ago that deanland, the blog, first began. It ran on different blogware, actually a few different ones before settling in this Drupal version where it's been for the past (roughly) ten years.
Prior to that it had been on Manila (by Userland) which I miss more and more every day. I became a wizard with Manila. It's how I taught myself HTML without knowing that's what I was doing.
The time may be right to resume blogging over here again. With some frequency, consistency, regularity, like the way back old days. It may just be retro Deanland time.
Why?
2016 in Review
By and large, just about everyone -at this time of year- is in agreement that 2016 was a miserable year. Except possibly Chicago Cubs fans.
Many years ago (the 1970's!) there was a sitcom, a big hit, featuring comedian/actor Gabe Kaplan. He played a high school teacher in Brooklyn, with the students cast as sterotypes of the day, a remedial group, one step away from Reform School. They were a comic bunch, a misfit or two among them, with John Travolta in what may be his earliest role of note. The show was "Welcome Back, Kotter."
Pig Stream Returns!
That headline may seem somewhat revolting. But the truth is wonderful, read on.
Blog, Stumble, Fall
Good thing I don't make New
year's resolutions. Already I would have fallen off the "blog more
regularly" wagon. Three posts are in some state of preparation,
and there's no guaranty all three will end up seeing the light of
screen (har har), much less even one or two.
UPDATE: Blogospheric Call For Help
As a certain politician put it, about 15 months ago, Help Was On The Way!
Looks like there's a bunch of positive blogospheric karma out
there. Help came, on New Years Eve and New Years Day.
There's
still just a little more work to be done, but now we see a solution, a
light at the end of the tunnel, and are full of new knowledge and some
expanded skills.
