Pictures of Susan & Dean, et al

Here we are, enjoying another winning effort, courtesy of our favorite group of players, the once and future World Champions, the beloved New York Yankees.

We
refer to this one as "
our official picture." There we are at the
religious shrine, in our finery. The picture was shot by a nearby
Japanese baseball fan, visiting Yankee Stadium and taking a zillion
pictures, So we asked for a shot of us with our camera, and this
is the result. This picture is from either 1996 or 1997
.

01 September 2002
Susan's
birthday: September 1, 2002. Just after our vacation in
California, there we are wearing our matching Monterey Aquarium
t-shirts. Our
friends Frank & Regine from Germany were in town with a group of
their friends. In honor of Frank being in New York, we all went
to a restaurant named after him. A little Italian Steakhouse.
The dots on Susan's shirt are raindrops, as she had just run
out from Frank's (a great little restaurant on Second Avenue at 3rd or
4th Street on the Lower East Side) to feed the parking meter.

Picture taken in Santa Barbara, so how fitting that it be in the same blog paragraph as a mention of Doc Searls!

How
she got this cap is a state secret. Ask her nicely and maybe
she'll tell you. Of course, she might just have to kill you
immediately afterwards. This is from around 1999 or 2000.

just out of the oven, we put it on the counter to cool off for a while before the carving. That's our friend Bob behind Susan. He gave the meal a Thumbs Up review. We were happy about that, given that we cooked the meal in his kitchen!

Doesn't Susan look proud of the 2003 Thanksgiving turkey? As
is the case almost every year, we cook our Thanksgiving Dinner over at
our friend Bob's place. That's Bob, in the background. Susan is the sous-chef, I am the
chef. Bob is the happy diner. Well, we all are, come to
think of it. Out goal each year is to spend less time cooking, and
to get more of the prep work done in advance than the year
before. Sometimes that is the case, but most years we still end up
eating way past our target sit-down time. All that
notwithstanding, the meal holds up, year after year. After all,
Bob keeps inviting us back!

We like this restaurant. It serves Chinese and Japanese
food. Reliable and moderately priced. 2nd Ave at 74th
Street.
Hunan Balcony,
74th and 2nd Avenue. There's something about being at this
restaurant in August that is very appealing. There we were on
August 13, 2003.

Sue in Darlaston had cool hats for us to try on. I wonder if
there's a woman named Darla in Sueston with a nice hat collection?
In December of 2003 we
visited our friends in The Black Country of England, a town
called Walsall. While there we spent time in Wales, a moment or
two in London and Oxford, and mostly enjoyed the company of our friends
from the Black Country. Here we are modeling hats, from the
collection of Sue From Darlaston (that is how we know her, no idea what
her surname might be)

Doc Searls took this picture. It was our annual celebration of
Doc being in town for the Linux show, and we always had a ritual of
dinner at Katz's during the January Linux show. 2004 was the last
year, though, as the show moved to Boston in 2005.

Ah, Katz's. my
favorite of all NY delis. Not a bodega or a luncheonette, Katz's
is a regular media and food experience. This is Willy Wonkowitz and
the Pastrami/Salami Factory. Yummy. Take a look below, and
cast your eyes on a Pastrami sandwich. Mmmm, finger-lickin' good. January 22, 2004.

. . .as only they can do it at Katz's Delicatessen on Houston at Ludlow, the Lower East Side, New York City.
Better Pastrami than at Katz's? Not likely to be found!

Larry was showing off his cool Fedora. It came from Alaska, a gift from
his Significant Other's son and daughter in law. Susan was duly
impressed by the hat.

Many years ago it was Larry who arrranged that Susan and I would meet.
He was a very dear and special friend to us, and we will miss him.

In February, 2005 we went
to visit our Friend Larry in Vegas. He was dying and it was
important that we see him one last time. This picture was shot at
one of the scenic parking lot photo opportunity sites by Hoover
Dam. Larry had a lot to do with Susan and me getting together in
the first place. We both miss Larry, who died ten days after our
visit. There's a huge hole in both our hearts. Friends like
Larry are few and far between.
