Little Blog Blurbs

Little Blog Blurbs

Reading blogs is a pastime, sometimes an addictive one. There are all sorts of blogs -- some newsy, some very personal, some exclusively devoted to a single topic, some very political, some just there as though a personal diary on line - - - all types.

Some bloggers post what seems like nothing more than mini blurbs, with links to the stories that have caught their eye. Some do much the same, while also adding comments or observation.

At times I am envious of those capable of posting the short little blurb-length blogs. In the spirit of posting more than just once a week, here are some mini-blurb-like bloglets, one of which is longer than the others. Why? Becuase, of course, it is most like the sort of post most usually seen hereabouts. That's why.

Press, not as in Iron

Knowing that March is National Small Press Month makes me want to nudge someone about something. Oh, not that kind of press? Cider Press? Oh. Never mind.

The Ears Have It

Vincent Van Google - the frustrated search engineer who cut off his ear in hopes of attracting an IMer whoíd asked him exceedingly personal questions that excited him as he searched for answers. ìAh, to paint her a swath of search engine hits, a panoply of pointers!î Realizing he knew her only via e-mail and IM, he let the ear harden, then used it as an ashtray through the rest of his living days.

BCII SCHEDULE

Dave Winer has posted a first draft of a proposed (as in not set in stone) BloggerCon II schedule. Looks good so far. Iíd like to see some more about blog usage in the commercial world, and also a tech tips for the non-technical session. On the BloggerCon message board there was a very long and enlightening list of suggestions for improvements and enhancements for blogging (and bloggers). Some of these were way over my non-tech head. Others were very sensible.

I stayed out of that discussion, as most of my wants and desires relate to Manila and Radio, the platforms I use for this and a few other blogs. Lisa Williams and Shimon Rura (he is the brainpower and energy behind Frassle, for which I have volunteered my services as a non-tech guinea pig/beta tester) compiled all the suggestion messages, and I think it was Lisa who posted a summary of sorts somewhere on the BCII blog.

Normally Iíd link to these things, but it has been a crazy week (gee, not even one blog post since last week!) and the location of that post is lost on me. Maybe if Lisa sees this she will post a comment with the location.

GOOD SPORTS (Women Only!)

After that tongue-in-cheek rant regarding what I perceived as the inane ìBrazen Babes that Blogî session at BCII, a number of e-mails came in, and a blog comment from Lisa Williams. Lisa informed me that the ìWomen Who Blogî confab was not looking like it was going to happen. Others (all women, by the way) wrote with spirited and funny remarks. It warmed my blogging heart that 100% of the respondents appreciated the spirit in which that post of mine was intended.

I was actually a little sorry to learn that the meeting is not going to happen. Part of me thought I should audit it, and report on same back here.

Major kudos and thanks to Jeneane Sessum for her nice post about it, and for her birthday wishes, too.

Thanks to Jeneane and a few others, the week following my birthday was a lot better than the one that preceded it, and the birthday weekend itself.

The good news is that in early April I get a Katzís sandwich as a birthday present, and that may be among the finest of all birthday gifts, bar none!
