HOLIDAY BLOG SLOWDOWN

Holiday Blog Slowdown

As it says in the item just below, I am off on a holiday trip, and will be away until almost the New Year. Blogging will be a little sporadic, at best. Possibly none at all, depending on the laptop and motivation situations.

EXTENDED HANUKKAH

Today I am off to the south. A visit with the kids, then we pile into the car and head to Florida to spend some time with their grandparents. Weíll see some movies, check out some restaurants, and generally have a good old time. Of course, thereís also the extended Hanukkah . . . living apart as we do, the kids get Hanukkah when Dad arrives. As much fun and joy as there is in giving them gifts, nothing beats seeing the looks on their faces as they unwrap the gifts!

Should be fun!

THE LAKE IN WALES

We have friends in the UK who spend a great deal of their vacation time and weekends in Wales. From their e-mails, their descriptions when theyíve visited us in New York, and the pictures (and some holiday presents that just arrived!) weíve become enchanted with Lake Vyrnwy.

... these are the feelings this picture invokes.

There is curious lore about the name . VYRNWY means Artificial Lake. Yes this is a man made construct, which was the result of a like-named river being dammed. A Google search found the following, from Page Wise, an encyclopedia site.

VYRNWY (Fyrnwy), an artificial lake or reservoir in the northwest of Montgomeryshire, N. Wales, constructed for the Liverpool water-supply. It was formed by damming the river Vyrnwy, which runs through Montgomeryshire and joins the Severn above Shrewsbury (see WATER-SUPPLY).

Thereís a hotel by the Lake, and it is just calling out to us. Our friends have visited the establishment, eaten there, and wholeheartedly recommend the place.

Funny, isnít it? Merely seeing a picture of this peaceful environment provided impetus to read up on it, study it a bit, and thoroughly captivate us. Maybe, after last Summerís vacation to the California Coast, this coming year we should consider a jaunt to the UK, to Wales, to this beautiful location.
You can see it in a larger, clearer, full sized picture. Click here, and see the shot taken by our friend that began this interest.

Hope your holidays are happy and healthy!
