THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF YESTERDAY'S ESSAY
(make sure you've read that before you read this!)

"OFFICIAL RECORDS."
If you own a car, you have title to it, and the registration. If you drive, you have a license to drive. When you have children, there is a Birth Certificate. When people die, there is a Death Certificate. To get married, one gets a license, and then a certificate of marriage.

No unborn child has a "kid on the way" certificate. What exists is a woman carrying a baby-to-be. Until the child is born, the woman is the person in a medical state of pregnancy. Her body. Her condition.

A woman who chooses to have an abortion is making a medical decision regarding her body, her health, her well-being. If one has moral issues, or cares to judge a woman negatively for taking such an action, so be it. Just as it seems wrong to force women not to have abortions, it seems equally wrong to force women to carry pregnancies to term if they care not to do so. "What about the father," some ask.

There are many arguments regarding the rights of the unborn child's father. But it is not his body. He played a role, but he doesn't have the medical condition. A father is not pregnant; his spouse/girlfriend/significant other is the pregnant one.

Among the more strident arguments one hears from certain quarters of the anti-choice movement is this: the life of an unborn child is being taken. Some are even less elegant, and just come out and call it murder.

Murder? If there's no birth certificate, no record of existence, no death certificate, how is this murder? The fetus is a part of the mother. So would it be termed a "partial murder?" Well, that's not very likely, since one can not be partially murdered any more than one can be halfway pregnant.

We make our choices and we live with them. Sometimes we change our views over time. This can be a case of broadened education, maturity experience, or just the passing of time. With each passing day it seems clearer that we answer to ourselves, and more so, at that.

Live and let live. Celebrate freedom of choice. Leave the other guy be. Don't butt in. Enable freedom.

If you, too, are in favor of live and let live, personal freedoms, and keeping the government out of your personal/religious business, then you will want to read this link, then sign it and let your voice be heard.
